There isn’t a better gym or a better coach in the east bay than Dan Black and Team Black. In my first month of training I dropped 15lbs and I’m in better shape than I have been in over 20 years. Dan will give you the push and knowledge you need to reach your fitness goals. And, if you have a desire to get in the ring or cage, he’s the best man to give you the skills needed.

In short, Team Black is a fantastic MMA gym that I would highly recommend. The way the story goes is that I've trained jiu jitsu for about 3 years and have attend a lot of really high level gyms in Southern California. Upon arrival to the gym I made Coach Black aware that I had been out of training for over a year and was really out of shape. He has been incredibly inviting and helpful in helping me get back into the swing of things. Not only has he made me feel like part of the team, but has been incredibly encouraging in my progress. I 10/10 recommend this gym.

Just started training about two months ago and I have definitely found the right spot. Coach Dan pushes you hard and will motivate you towards your goals whether it’s just learning to defend yourself or progressing into a fighting career.
The class is perfect for everyone regardless of experience or fitness level. Everyone push’s hard but everything is controlled. Great Class. Great Coach. Come train.

Team Black is the best place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Muay Thai/MMA in the Antioch/Brentwood/Oakley area. Head instructor Dan is super knowledgeable and has over 30 years experience in all aspects of the fight game. He is a thoughtful, caring, compassionate human being that constantly goes the extra mile for all his students. When you train here you really become part of a family. Dan has coached professional fighters at the championship level all the way to soccer moms and kids who just want a workout and some self defense training. Team Black has something for everyone, definitely the best place to train in the East Bay.

Amazing experience! I’ve never done a martial arts class before, so I was feeling really intimidated & worried about not fitting in. Plus, I’m a weenie so I was thinking I’m gonna get ran over. But Dan Black is so welcoming & motivating. He knows how to work with beginners like me. I also watched him work with one of his fighters & can say he trains killers in this gym! I can’t recommend this place enough. 15/10. Come train here; you won’t regret it.

Dan Black is a MMA/ Muay thai coach and trains 10am-12pm and 7pm to 9pm at this time of writing, Monday through Friday. He has 20+ years of experience in martial arts and also is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has a passion for training and seeing individuals grow better in all aspects of life.

He encourages trainees to fight if they would like but you are welcome to just train for self defense. No year long contracts so if you find out that training is not for you, you are free to drop out. In one session, you get to work on heavy bags, pad work with Dan or one of the experienced trainers, sparring, and drilling with the other trainees.

I started out not knowing how to properly throw a kick but Coach matches the effort you put in and pushes you more than you think you can go. I am a physically and mentally tougher version of myself thanks to Coach, and honestly, martial arts is a very practical skill to have. It is by no means easy, but being challenged and pushed are what end up making you better.
