I lived near the tunnel from the late 60's through the 80's. Back then there was full access to the tunnel, unlike today. A few friends and I would grab our flash lights and make the trek through the tunnel to play on the sets that were still standing in Corriganville. It would take about 45 minutes to get through the tunnel. On one occasion we had a train come through. You could tell it was coming by the rumbling sound throughout the tunnel and the strong odor of the diesel exhaust blowing from the direction of the train. This meant it was time to scramble for the cut outs in the tunnels side. They are approximately every 150 feet and about 5'WX4'HX3'D in size. We tucked in the cut outs as the train rumbled by. It felt like the train was trying to suck us out but I think it was more psychological then anything, as the train slows down before entering the tunnel. The exhaust was thick and breathing was difficult, but only lasted for 30 to 40 seconds. It was pretty exciting. Would I do it again, probably not. Would I encourage anyone else to do it, probably not. When all was said and done, it was just one of many awesome experiences I had while growing up in the area. I like to return from time to time and reminisce. It's a cool place to visit.

Exactly what you'd xpect from single track rail tunnel. Fairly long tunnel do not attempt walking through. Someone created two near identical rock mazes near west entrance in Corrigangville park ( Silvertown, old west film set location) one on each side of tracks. A few hiking trails starting in corriganville park go right by this impressive early 1900's engineering feat that was dug mainly by Chinese laborers who camped in area under nice oak grove. Area originally Chumash camp. Tunnel is perfect suicide spot or good place to take your kids to see/hear train from side of tracks.

HIstoric train tunnel finished around 1900-1903. its quite long and 3rd in the series that passes from CHatsworth( Santa Susanna State Historic Park) to Simi valley. Lots of history here. Also very wonderful train museum ( Santa Susanna Depot) with docents close by. AND AND AND if you stand looking at the entrance/exit there on your left you will notice an old dirt old road going up the side of the hill (east) thats the old Santa Susanna pass game trail, the native american indians used to track and hunt game, than the spanish missionaries developed this route to travel between missions, after that the stagecoach used it from 1870 ? to about 1900. Touch some history today. Enjoy!!

Careful if you go inside the tunnel it's quite dangerous lol but let the mind be curious

You can see it from a distance. The tunnel is closed for viewing and people have died who tried to go in it as there is not enough clearance between the train and the tunnel walls.
