The San Francisco Estuary Institute, or SFEI, is not as well known as it ought to be, considering it is one of the most important and influential nonprofit organizations in the Bay Area. Their dedicated group of scientists monitor the health of the Bay and its watersheds, regularly testing samples of water, sediment, bivalves, fish, bird eggs, and mammals.

Data from these observations has supported important actions by local water quality managers, and regulatory decisions by the state, such as limiting the use of copper in brake pads (which is toxic to aquatic organisms) or becoming the first state to begin regulating the toxic "forever chemicals" PFAS.

SFEI publishes dozens of scientific reports and articles each year, which are a treasure trove of cutting edge information about our beloved Bay and the Northern California environment.

This organization wants to "re-oak California." If you read about climate change you will read that oak trees are going to create more and more pollen in the future, causing great problems for residents: debilitating allergies, asthma, inflammation leading to many diseases. The last thing we need is more oak trees! We need trees that are not allergenic. Don't donate to this organization.
