This is a great venue. Growing up in Los Angeles I loved performing at a popular jazz dive called "Dante's." It was a smaller venue where it felt like you were part of the band as an audience member. I've been looking for something like that since moving to Nashville over a year ago. After watching the Ryan Middaugh Jazz Band last night at the Nashville Jazz Workshop, I was taken back to the Dante's of the 70 and 80s. The performers are just feet away. It's like listening live inside immersive earbuds, only it's live. You are immersed in the sound. So much better than the stadium concerts where you can barely see the stage, let alone the performer, and the sound is 100%, sterile, amplification. Another advantage we discovered on our first visit is that you can BYOF&B at the Workshop. The venue sells snacks and soda with the benefits going to the Workshop. Next time we're taking dinner and packing a bottle of Merlot to the Workshop.

Nice intimate venue. We saw Kirk Whalum perform. It's a little cramped but was still a great spot.

Seeing and HEARING jazz legends, jazz present, and jazz future in this place I get the feeling that the heart and soul the musician is cared for and nurtured in a way that helps them give a little extra on stage, in concert and in classes.
