Route setting: 5/5 - great routes.
Gear: 2/5 - extremely run down gear, mist bring your own. Owner really needs to resupply rentals… but they do have the bare necessities.
Location: 8/5 - just ridiculously cool views. Despite the shortcomings here, it’s worth a visit. (The scooter area is off limits here, but there is a bus line)
Staff: 5/5 - chill, good vibes.
Notes: The other comments here about walls being bare or shut down are true. For such a beautiful gym, it’s a shame things go unattended here and walls are taped off. There is enough to go around but it’s far from perfect here.

I pay an absurd amount of money for you to close the bouldering area for multiple consecutive days. For people that o ly get to come in once or twice a week. This sucks. I'm going to switch to touchstone.

Update: it's 10 days after they first shut down bouldering walls, and they still don't have them all opened back up. Canceled membership.

Update 2: one week post competition. There are still 2 walls that remain unset. Can't believe people pay $110 a month for blank walls.

Absolutely epic gym. Great views from the big windows out into the bay. See Alcatraz as you climb. Very creative and fun routes with challenging features. Really cool bouldering with fun finishes. Staff is super friendly and helpful. They pick up the phone too. Can’t wait to go back.

I love this place so much! I took up climbing a year and a half ago and I climb twice a week. I love the community, the classes, and all of the routes. It’s my happy place. Highly recommend if you want to try climbing in SF.
They also just added an upstairs lounge, which is really comfy to hang out in.

I switched to this gym from Touchstone because it’s closer to me. I enjoy the location and the quality of the route setting, but it often feels overcrowded, especially around 5-6 PM when it seems there’s a dozen youth teams present. Touchstone had its own crowding issues, but I didn’t have to deal with a bunch of kids running around, which made the environment feel more controlled and safe. Hoping the movement team will address this.

Great location, friendly staff, good equipment but during the evenings the bouldering area is OVERRUN with kids from the climbing "teams" running around, screaming and jumping in front of you to hop on a climb. The gym must teach these kids better bouldering etiquette and these youth team nights only twice a week. It is a horrible and frustrating experience every time I go.

Bad gym. Super limited, greasy old bouldering. Routes haven’t been changed in months. They don’t offer an early day pass rate. Go to Touchstone. Climbing has been corporatized for years now, but don’t pay extra for a weaker experience.

Top rope routes are very creative with interesting beta, there's a high concentration of 5.10a to 5.11d routes in this gym, so as an intermediate you'll never get bored. They have lots of hard routes too, but not a lot of dedicated lead routes. There are several cracks, one of which is actually adjustable. Bouldering is good, but the beginner routes start are harder than other gyms. Santa Clara has more beginner options, while this gym has a wide and even range of problems. Overall the routesetters at this gym are A+ on quality. They have nearly every training board that exists, the bluetooth bouldering wall, full weight training gym with treadmills and everything. Facilities are fantastic as this is an old factory building on the edge of Crissy Field, and from the walls you can literally look out at the bay and the SF skyline. They had the windows open and there was a gentle sea breeze coming in along with tons of natural light. This gym well exceeded all expectations, A+ 10/10 bravo folks.
