The Owl outings are really great. Hazel is so knowledgeable. She has shown us places that I did not know about. I do not, as yet, have a regular hiking buddy, or someone to explore the outdoors with, so these outings are really good.

I participated in a collaborative hike planned by Maine Outdoor School and Women for Healthy Rural Living. I was lacking the confidence to do a strenuous hike alone so this hike was a total game changer for me! Hazel from MOS was our guide. She was knowledgeable, positive, and empowering. Our entire group had a most excellent experience and my only complaint is that it eventually ended.

Joining OWL's Outing Group for Women was a truly unforgettable experience. I had never been canoeing before, and honestly, I might never have tried it if it weren't for this incredible group. The outing gave me the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone in a supportive, welcoming environment. I met an amazing group of women, ranging from seasoned outdoor enthusiasts to first-timers like me, and together we enjoyed a beautiful day on the river. This is such an amazing program. Every time, I go on these walks I am in awe of Hazel’s knowledge and learn something, that I am able incorporate into my daily life. I believe that connecting to nature (and food) is one of the strongest factors in feeling joy making this an invaluable experience. It is also fun to explore new natural places and meet new people.

Hazel from Maine Outdoor School was amazing as a guide for our family. We traveled from Michigan to Maine and in a Google search, I learned about the Maine Outdoor School. Communication beforehand was prompt and she designed a hike that was unique for my three kids (ages 5 - 16), my dad, my husband, and I. She was informative and very passionate about all of the flora and fauna we encountered. She was very patient & kind while my 5-year old asked millions of questions too. I highly recommend the Maine Outdoor School and can’t wait to come back to Maine for another personalized family adventure guided by Hazel.

My daughter and I participated in a guided canoe trip with Hazel. She was fantastic! She was really great with my 6yo and was a great adult companion, as well. She is very knowledgeable and obviously loves what she does - we learned a lot and are excited to try another excursion with Maine Outdoor School! I am an outdoor person, who has a fair amount of experience, and I still had a great time - I would highly recommend if you're curious and excited about getting into the outdoors for the first time AND if you're an experienced outdoors enthusiast who is looking for a different, fun, and educational experience! The hike I joined was incredibly fun and informative. Hazel pointed out animal signs and shared interesting stories along the way and was attentive to the needs of everyone in the group. I learned so much! Having not done much winter hiking, it was wonderful to be part of a group outing and feel safe and supported.

Maine Outdoor School, L3c is a wonderful business. The work they do in our community is essential and important. Hazel and Joe are extremely knowledgeable, professional, prompt, and hard-working. I highly recommend them if you need a Registered Maine Guide, if you want to introduce naturalist and outdoor education to your classroom, or for any other outdoor-related activity! Hazel Stark, co-founder of Maine Outdoor School, is also a skilled facilitator and educator, and their professional development programs are worth a look into.
