We took our two granddaughters (16 & 17) to California for a senior trip. They wanted to learn to surf. I picked a great fit in choosing Kapowui! This is a top notch company! Very friendly and accommodating (I changed our time 3x's😬). Their instructor, Ryan, was very knowledgeable, friendly, kept them safe and got them up on their very first try! Marjan the professional photographer did an awesome job of capturing their experience. Highly recommend this company.

I brought my 7 year old (turning 8 this week) nephew down for his first surf lesson. I couldn’t be any more pleased with the fantastic experience that Kapowui provided. From the moment that we walked up to the van, we received first class treatment. It was a great vibe. Everyone was super nice. The instructor was named River. Either my nephew is the next Kelly Slater or River is a fantastic teacher because my nephew was up and riding on his first ride! He had an absolute blast but to be honest, I think that I may have had even a better time watching him.I definitely recommend this company.

I had my first beginner surf lesson at Kapowui with Todd, and it was such a great experience! Todd was awesome—super supportive and patient, which made the whole thing so much fun. I felt really comfortable the entire time and can’t wait for my next lesson. Highly recommend checking them out!

Cannot give Kapowui enough praise. Liam was amazing, patient, kind, funny and very knowledgeable.

We had two adults and two children and he went out of his way to make all of us comfortable and paid extra attention to the kids making sure they were safe and got up on the board. Keeping them safe means him diving under the waves to them after a wave goes over to make sure they’re okay, helping to hold their boards when a wave would come, holding their board through the wave so they could be stabilized and feel confident.

When I got tossed in a wave myself he came over immediately to check on me, give advice on how to prepare and handle a larger wave coming at you and your board and then pumps you up to try again! He was truly just lovely to be around.

We all had a blast and it is now our favorite family memory. Ask for Liam if you can but also the other instructors seemed just as nice and knowledgeable, I don’t think you can go wrong with any instructor at Kapowui.

The van is easy to spot and there’s lots of parking by it. You’ll have to carry your board a decent distance to Lifeguard stand 29 but Liam showed us two ways to carry the boards so switching it up every so often helps the carrying of the board.

You’ll get sized for your wetsuit at the van and if it happens to be chilly out like it was for us..the wetsuits warm you up as soon as you put them on and you can’t even feel the cold water it’s great.

I’d give 1000 stars on the review if I could ⭐️

The lesson my dad and my friend had was absolutely amazing. Todd was a really great instructor and we all learned a lot. Definitely recommend lessons with Kapowui. Would do it again.

Nick was amazing!! Such a wonderful instructor. I was visiting from nyc and had a bad instructor experience before there so was really unsure of my surfing. But Nick was so kind and such a great teacher, I came out of it in such high spirits and he really helped keep my love of surfing. He’s the best so thank you so much!!

Liam instructed my boyfriend and me on our very first surfing lesson! He explained the anatomy of the board and how to ride. He’s super nice, patient, and fun to work with! He’s from South Africa and owns a surfing business there, so his experience made the training lesson safer and more fun!

We an amazing surfing lesson with Tyler! We like the way he explained complicated things into a very simple fundamentals, break down the techniques, and make sure we felt comfortable in the water. By the end of the session, we were able to catch some great waves! If you're looking for a fun, supportive, and knowledgeable surf instructor, Tyler is definitely the one to go with. Highly recommend!
