Just completed Firearms Academy of Redding (FAR's) 16 hour Initial California Concealed Weapons training course. Joel's instruction was 2nd to none. I greatly appreciated the first 8 hours conducted online via Zoom on two separate 4 hour blocks, from the comfort of my home. Range day is the final part of the course, and again Joel and his range staff provided 2nd to none hands on firearm training. Despite my 20 + years of military service and training with various weapons, I still really enjoyed Joel's range class, it was a great refresher for me. If you have no or little firearm training, Joel is defiantly the instructor I would recommend to any one new to firearms. I hope to train again soon with Joel and his team. Thanks FAR!

Just a quick word if I may about the “Redding Firearms Academy”. I’ve been using them for years and it’s always been an extremely awesome experience. Both Joel Northrup and Dave Morley are have tons of experience and they take great pride and joy in passing that experience on to others. Their confidence and enthusiasm are very contagious making the lecture and range sessions so much fun. They both go out of their way to help everyone in any way that they can. It’s always a relaxed and inviting environment (very conducive to quality training).
You have lots of choices where you may go for your CCW training, and I’m sure that several of them are just fine, but if you want the best then I’d suggest that you contact Joel & Dave at the Redding Firearms Academy. You’ll have a great time as I always do.

Did my first class with Joel back in 1994 when he was just a kid 🙂 and have been taking his classes ever since. Always informative and he really makes you think about the power and responsibility that comes with a CCW permit. He also puts yours, his and everyone else's safety a top priority. Joel, Dave, and Jared were great instructors on the range. I was frankly surprised at their in depth knowledge about the wide variety of firearms brought by our group. Safety always #1 factor. We progressed from simple gun handling to more advanced exercises simulating various self defense scenarios. Joel previously gave very informative classroom session making the various handgun laws very clear, giving great instruction on self defense, and stressing safety above all. Highly recommend!

My instructor was Dave Morley and he was AMAZING! My wife and I took his class together. The class was very informative and Dave presented all the information in a clear and interesting way. We were lucky to have had such a great Instructor and I highly recommend choosing his class. We needed an in person class as Tehama County Sheriff does not allow a zoom class for CCW and Dave was very accommodating with a class that worked for our schedule. The Range was awesome too! We definitely felt prepared after his class and it was well worth the drive to go there. FIVE STAR rating!

I have had the privilege of attending Joel’s classroom session for my initial CCW application and multiple renewals. He does an excellent job of explaining clearly the laws with respect to carry and (God forbid) the use of lethal force in self defense situations. His presentation is clear and easy to follow. He encourages questions and is easily approachable.
I have also been to Joel’s range session for my initial qualification and, more recently, re-qualification. The sessions are well run and there is a heavy emphasis on safety. Men and women of any age are made to feel comfortable during qualifying.
I encourage everyone I speak to about firearms to take the CCW class with Firearms Academy of Redding.

Went to renew my CCW and had a great time learning the laws pertaining to concealed carry in California. The instructor Dave Morley made it a very pleasant time and is very knowledgeable about the laws and regulations of carrying. If you have trouble with the range qualification, like one girl did in our class, he will take the time to help you out by telling you what you need to do to shoot better. I would highly recommend Dave for your CCW class or renew. I really appreciate how he worked with me on my availability to take the class.
