Cornerstones is a wonderful program for young adults who are struggling to find their place in the world. The clinical staff, in particular, are remarkably compassionate and insightful. They seem to genuinely care about each of the program’s residents. The staff work hard to establish strong, safe, and trusting connections with the young adults in their care. Cornerstones is an oasis in what can sometimes feel like the desert of professional support/resources for the transition to independent adulthood. I would not hesitate to refer any other loved ones to this excellent residential program.

Placing our children in residential care is never an easy decision. I can say without a doubt however that my son has grown immensely in his 10 months at Cornerstones. If I had to make the decision again I would hands down choose Cornerstones. The therapists are compassionate, skilled and dedicated. The life skills coaches know just how to lead our young adults with equal measures of patience and motivation. This program is unique in all of the best ways - the milieu is important and used to its fullest, therapists and coaches meet your child where they are and do what needs to be done to help them move forward, and the warmth and caring is always apparent. Having experienced other residential settings I can say that Cornerstones stands out from the rest - I don't think you could choose better for your child.

I have referred clients who are struggling, suffering and "stuck" for any number of reasons - here over the years Cornerstones has existed -the clinical approach is highly sophisticated and dynamic at the same time that the milieu is warm and friendly. The founders and directors are intentional and thoughtful in developing and maintaining an effective program to help young adults find a sense of well being, the ability to be productive in ways that are meaningful to them, positive family relationships and success in creating their own communities.

I cannot say enough positive things about the program and staff and Cornerstones of Maine! It really is an incredible group of people who are truly dedicated to their residents. I feel lucky to have found them. Our therapist is accessible even outside of our regular scheduled meetings (within reason), which is very important when other issues pop up. He is patient in explaining behavioral patterns and strategies to evoke change. He is collaborative, always asking and taking into account our feelings, opinions and comfort level. When asked, my child gave him a 10 on a 1-10 scale of how much they liked and felt connected to their therapist. That to me says it all! The education and life skills teams are equally incredible and their programs are comprehensive. I feel my child is well taken care of and learning and growing! It is so nice to see! Even when there are bumps in progress, Cornerstones is very supportive of the family and residents, always using these as opportunities for more growth and momentum for positive change.

Cornerstones of Maine has been a lifesaver for our son and our family. The personalized program, weekly conference calls and unlimited support in psychological, educational and life skills issues helped us work through our most difficult times. Our son gained independence, and we learned how to communicate more effectively as a family. We can't thank the dedicated staff enough, and we will always be grateful that we chose Cornerstones!

Cornerstones of Maine completely turned our daughter's life around. Before Cornerstones she was on a downward spiral in terms of mental health and substance abuse. We feared she would be living with us for the rest of our lives. Cornerstones helped her to come to terms with deep seated issues that she did not want to face. Because of the 24/7 immersion in therapy, life skills and work, our child is now a very productive adult. I would strongly recommend Cornerstones to any family deeply concerned about the direction their child's life is taking.

I am very grateful for Cornerstones of Maine. The therapists are fantastic and provided the guidance my child needed during a difficult time in life. I, too, learned how to best support her through the process. The work is hard, but so worth it. Each day I see how grounded and confident she is and how beautifully she continues to grow. My then nineteen year old daughter was a resident at Cornerstones from 9/19 to 7/20. Terrific location.
First and foremost my daughter was always safe without exception. She was treated respectfully and with care from all staff. They worked tirelessly with her around her needs, wishes and issues. My daughter had a terrific volunteer job that opened her eyes and heart. The staff helped her find a great language program along with an art class at USM. The community meals and cooking were impressive.
Her therapist and our family therapist was terrific. I was always kept in the loop. I want to highlight the excellence of this part of the program.
The one piece I wish had been different was a step between leaving Cornerstones and independent living. All the pieces were in place, but, a step down would have been useful.
Cornerstones is a safe, well run and thoughtful program with skilled and caring staff. Very impressive program and administration, as well.
