My favorite place on Earth

This place has been a long standing San Diego tradition since the Second World War. Those San Diego residents who are lucky enough to make memories of this place generally have overwhelmingly positive reviews of the food, staff, and overall experience of Camp Cuyamaca.

I am a former staff member here and I can say without a doubt that I made some of the best memories of my life here. Furthermore, the mentorship and relationships I forged here gave me great skills and an experience to succeed as an educator.

10/10 would recommend

I went here in 2023, best experience of my life, would highly recommend, staff was super nice to everyone, Ms. Audrey was the BEST, I loved her. Mr. Michael was an amazing hike leader, the all day hike and night hikes he took us on were amazing. The food was delicious, and though the beds look uncomfortable they are the most Comfortable beds ever. The staff were very responsible and respectful with the kids.
I HIGHLY recommend you send your child here, they will gain an amazing experience and learn a lot! :3

I went to this camp for one week as a field trip in 6th grade.
The hike leader I was assigned to asked me if I was from a specific country because of my last name, and I said yes because I am. To get our attention, he would say, “…ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and most importantly Hanna, (my name) because she is her own species.”. Everyone in my group was confused and asked him why, and he would just reply with, “she just is.”, and I eventually told my teacher about this which resulted in me changing hiking groups.
Just recently I found out I wasn’t the only person he did this to. The hiking leader did it to a guy my friends know and he would be called the same thing; our own species.

I don’t know if he wanted to come off as funny or calling us special in a positive way, but I found it creepy. I always thought it was just me, but the fact I met someone who also shared this experience makes me wonder if he has done that to one particular person every time he was assigned a new group. Me and the other guy who were both singled out are from different ethnic backgrounds compared to the rest of our group, which may have contributed to this issue. I am pretty sure a kid wouldn’t like to deal with discrimination, especially from a staff member. It might be too late to report this but the hike leader’s name was Gil. I wrote this to advise the staff members of Cuyamaca to address reports seriously and to ensure everyone is treated equally.

The food was very good, but after I ate my stomach always hurts. The hikes were exhausting they would be about 1-3 hours. Beds were comfortable from my point of view. Staff were also polite. The talent show was funny and exciting! My favorite one was the Justin Bieber Baby. We all hyped up everyone.

My 2nd year at Cuyamaca Outdoor Camp was just as ⭐️ AWESOME⭐️ as my first. The staff is wonderfully caring, supportive of our students’ needs and a whole lotta FUN! It was an amazing week of hiking, exploring, team building and just being in nature! I can’t wait to come back next year! Thank u everyone!

I truly marvel at how amazing the staff is here and the experiences they create for the students. They educate students not only about the nature and biodiversity in the area, but also how to help the Earth in their everyday lives like composting and recycling. I have attended three years as a teacher and every year, I see a transformation in the students by the end of the week. The staff here are incredible. They are kind, patient, and so joyful! Truly a once in a lifetime experience!

it was fun but i got the flu and covid after and even food poisoning, the food was so bad the only good food was on the longest hike. The hikes were fun but the beds were like prison beds and if the mattress wasn’t so thin it would’ve been better but if they got new beds it be more conforming
