After using all of the behavioral skills I was taught where I adopted my dog I was still struggling with my dog’s reactivity and aggression. I started to fear my dog and what she was capable of if I didn’t have my eyes on her at all times, causing us separation anxiety to add to the mix.

I hired Refined K9 and I got some incredible training (my dog did too) and I was given so much advice on how to help our issues and give structure to our adorable pit mix.

Now, I know my dog’s triggers and body language, now I know how to act, react and how to properly tire her mind with training versus excessive and mindless exercise, when to reward, when to correct.

Now I have a more calm, mind, house and dog with the training I received from Theo. I enjoy my dog and the life I get to have with her.

I could not recommend RefinedK9 enough! We first worked with Theo a couple of years ago to work on our dog’s reactivity. The 1:1 sessions and group LRA classes were invaluable to us. Everyone at RefinedK9 has been amazing — since then we’ve boarded our dogs with them many times while on vacation and it’s a great feeling knowing your pet is in the care of someone who knows them well and will give them the enrichment they need while you’re away.

In terms of results, last weekend we went on a trip with friends and their dogs. Our dog was able to comfortably hang out in a new house with other dogs they hadn’t met before. No reactions or stress — just a happy dog being able to coexist. This was definitely something our dog wouldn’t have been able to do before working with Theo & RefinedK9.

We found Refined K-9 in looking for help with our Sheltie’s reactivity to other dogs and pretty much anything that moves—most notably runners, bikes, motorcycles, and skateboards.

We did a 4-week board and train with Jose and it was truly one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. We visited once a week to see her progress (and get some training for ourselves as well!) with the program culminating in an extended go-home lesson. Our dog’s behavior was notably improved and she was even trained with off-leash recall, which is something we never thought would be possible for her.

Since the board and train, we’ve attended their LRA group class many times, which provides a structured environment for continued training, support, and learning. We’ve boarded with Kate over the last few years as well; we’re so appreciative that we have a reliable place for our dog to stay while traveling!

Refined K-9 is a truly wonderful group of trainers with a wide range of knowledge. I’d highly recommend them no matter what help you’re seeking with your dog!

RefinedK9 has been a lifesaver for us and our basenji. From initial training to boarding with many of their trainers, they have been excellent.

We reached out to them initially struggling with training, which they were able to help provide guidance and the tools to be able to improve magnitudes. From introducing crate training, reducing leash pulling and other behavioral improvements; our relationship and ability to manage our dog has made a world of difference.

Since undergoing training; they’ve been able to board our dog a few times a year for the past three years. The peace of mind knowing their trainers can manage dogs like mine and that our dog gets excited to see the trainers each trip has made it a perfect fit for us.

We had an initial evaluation with one of their trainers, and it was a lackluster experience. If there was an actual assessment of my 18-pound chihuahua mix's behavior, it wasn’t clear nor communicated to us. I am also disappointed with their insistence on using aversive training tools and techniques, such as prong collars and electrical devices like shock collars, for disciplinary purposes. These devices are now illegal in several Western countries, as evidence-based research shows that aversive training methods are not only ineffective but can also compromise the welfare of dogs. I just wish they had been transparent about their approach to dog training before booking the evaluation appointment.

Edit: Apparently they have no record of this assessment, which my wife booked, or of my dog, Luna! I certainly recall having their trainer in my living room for 90 minutes though. I hope they have a record of our payment.

I adopted my husky-mix pup in August 2023. Being a rescue, she was very skittish, reactive, and pulled on her leash. Refined K-9 was a training service recommended to me by one of the experienced volunteers at Rocket Dog Rescue, and my dog and I started training with Alexia in Oct of 2023. I learned so much and saw an immediate positive impact on my dog. Almost a year later I can allow my pup off-leash (which I thought may never be a possibility) and she is far less reactive. The Refined K-9 Group classes have also been incredibly helpful in keeping my skills sharp since finishing our private training sessions. I'm very grateful for Refined K-9's services!

We took our hyper and distracted dog for board and train with Refined K9 and we got back a well trained and focused dog. We are very happy with our experience working with Refined K9 trainers and we continue to use Refined K9 for overnight boarding when we are out of town. Would highly recommend Refined K9 to anyone!
