Took my first beginning adult wood working class with Michael at Wooshop Squared, and then I took another and another. He's a great teacher, very forgiveing in critique and has a lot of wood working knowledge to teach you. As skills increased, we decided to make a table lamp. Very fun, and challenging for sure, for an adult beginning wood worker.

My teen has mentioned a few times how much she enjoys this class. And trust me- she is not easy to please. Today she said that she likes how when she makes a mistake, Michael doesn’t make her feel stupid about it. He understands that there is a learning process. She has also mentioned that she likes how easy going Michael is and how he lets her decide things. She has a lot of freedom in this class to try things and learn.

She is not a kid who wants to waste her time going to things or doing things "just because". She needs to find the value in it. So for her to tell me a few times that she likes this class is a huge compliment.

Thank you for a great class!

Great class. I love the flexibility of being able to work on my own projects! Michael went above and beyond to make the projects possible and the experience informative and enjoyable.

Just finished my first time in the Adult Beginners class. Had an absolute blast learning from Michael. It was a fun and enriched experience. I joined to become a more handy person and be able to craft what I want. The class is structured so we all get something we want to learn and it works great! I would definitely recommend any adults interested in woodwork to take this class.

I have always dinked around the idea of woodworking. I’ve worked in scene shops and built stuff with my Dad. I wanted to learn better technique so that this can grow into a hobby and even a sideline as I start to think about what life looks like after retirement in about 15 years. I am absolutely ping learning from Michael. The small class format is great. The schedule is perfect for after work and I’m learning a LOT. If you or your kid has any interest in woodworking I highly recommend Michael and Woodshop Squared! I am looking forward to taking the next level course when it’s offered. Doing something for myself has turned out to be very fulfilling.

Michael is extremely knowledgeable and works very well with kids! He helped my boys measure for their own projects and guided them through using a variety of tools. My boys loved the opportunity to be creative and learn to build things they would use while becoming more independent in the woodshop along the way. I highly recommend Woodshop Squared for kids (and adults!) who are looking to gain new life skills and make a fun project!

A lot of "hands-on" camps will have their kids assemble a project, step by step, with instructions and precut pieces. Like Legos.

Which is fine.

But that is not this place.

Michael is AMAZING with kids and is such a natural teacher. I want to give you an example of what I'm talking about here.

I signed my 7 year old up for his woodworking class. He had a little kid-sized bench set up for him. He went through safety and whatnot, and then showed him how to hammer a nail, down to how to correctly steady the nail.

Then, as practice, he had some plywood fixed to the fence. He told the kids to hammer their nails into the plywood, but not all the way, leaving about an inch of the nail sticking out.

The kids hammered away, having a blast.

When they were finished, Michael revealed what they had built . . . a place to hang their tools.

The kids were delighted and instantly hung up their compasses and saws.

Throughout the day, Michael showed them how to saw, how to drill, how to square, and the kids each build their own bench hook for their future projects.

Embedded in these practical lessons were mini lessons in all things wood . . . how trees grow, how the wood grain runs and what that means for cutting/splitting/drilling.

Kids under Michaels gentle and supportive tutelage aren't just putting together a box. They are learning about the art and craft of woodworking.
