Cashier gave misinformation, $100 gone

I needed a swimsuit rather quickly yesterday and stopped by this shop -- I told the cashier I was looking for a swimsuit and wanted to make sure that I could return it if anything went wrong, to which she said yes, 7 days for full refund and 30 days for store credit, and also made sure I got my receipt if I did intend on returning it.
But the next day when I came to the store and tried to refund my swimsuit I was told it's ineligible because it's a swimsuit and because it's a sale item.

I didn't keep the swimsuit because it was too small and there were none others in my size -- I only put it on to try on but otherwise didn't use it at all and had all tags intact.

Generally $100 for a swimsuit is out of my budget and I was only willing to take the risk of buying it without trying it on because of the return policy. I was offered store credit instead, so I considered exchanging it but they didn't carry my size so there was nothing to trade it in for, and I don't even live in Santa Cruz and probably will never be back to this store so I'm just counting this as $100 lost.

I had a great lesson with Dylan who really helped me progress in only a couple hours. He was also a great surfer and fun to watch! The storefront also has lockers, a shower, and rentals. Would recommend to anyone looking to improve their surfing!

Overall amazing! So friendly and helpful! They helped me find the right board and wetsuit.
Spent time with me recommending spots. Lent me a bike! Lockers and hot showers!
Overall everything was great the equipment was fantastic!
This is my new favourite rental in Santa Cruz!

Travelers is a super fun and relaxed surf shop with a unique offering. Thad, The manager in Santa Cruz, was super friendly and helpful. If you’re traveling on the coast of California and want to surf I’d highly recommend it. They give you all day board and wet suit use as well as a clean shower and locker for a great price. Check it out!

Amazing selection of boards. Warm showers, lockers, lots of great things for surfers and non-surfers alike. Very knowledgeable staff (Bonnie rules). Is it wrong I wanted to get out of the water just to experience everything they have to offer?
