Wax, lessons, amazing boards, friendly staff, this is what local shops are all about. Support this shop and help small business thrive.

The staff at this store have terrible customer service; the worst I've ever experienced. Ginger was behind the cash register and her demeanor was that of an apathetic, angsty, robotic teenager. She seemed to be judging me just for coming into the store. She also told me that there was no running water at the shop in order to encourage me to wash the rental board, but when I went outside to my board up I saw an employee spraying down wet-suits with a hose. I have no problem with washing my board, but was it really necessary to lie in order to get me to do so?

To make matters worse, I lost track of time on the water, so I made it back to the shop at about 6:20 - 20 minutes after it closes. I take full responsibility for my mistake and I learned from it, but the manner in which Ginger responded was very spiteful and unprofessional. Thankfully, I was able to speak with a tenant that lives above the shop named Keith(who was super chill), and he let me stash my board and wet-suit upstairs so I wouldn't have to make the 2-hour round trip to return them the next day. I called in the next day to apologize and make sure the gear was returned, but instead of letting me know that everything was okay, Ginger shamed me for being late in a very nasty tone and repeated what she'd already told me in a voicemail the evening prior. This was frustrating because I was already aware of that information, I felt bad for being late, and she was salting the wound instead of being understanding. She also lied once again, saying that the owner of the shop had called my friend and I, and that they had called my friend numerous times but he ignored them. The fact is, Ginger called each of us once and left a voicemail the day before, but the owner never called either of us.

To top it off, I was banned from the shop for 3 months just for being late one time. I could understand that response if I'd done this more than once, but this was my first time ever surfing. I didn't realize how quickly time can fly on the water, but now I know. I had intended to apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused her, but after being guilt-tripped and lied to, I decided that she doesn't deserve an apology, and this shop doesn't deserve my business. If you're reading this I'd reconsider supporting this business because of its poorly trained, dishonest, passive-aggressive staff.

Just went in for a simple rental, didn’t have any questions, but felt like I was a huge inconvenience to everyone there for both pick up/drop off. Super uncomfortable. I’ll rent boards in Stinson next time.

*Edit - It seems the owner disregards every one star review. Not everyone takes the time to give 5 star reviews. Most people are far too busy to give kudos to every business that has met or exceeded their expectations. Since I was prompted by Google to share a review, I obliged because of my negative experience. I was simply trying to save people from spending their hard earned time/money on shoddy businesses. Your response just confirms my review.

Im prefacing this with the fact that i went on a really sunny day and I'm sure they were swamped with customers but my experience here was really lacking. Tried to make small talk and received stone cold silence from the single person behind the counter. 50 dollars for a wetsuit and a surfboard when there was only 2 hours left for rentals also seemed pretty high to me. The beach was lovely but I would borrow a board from a friend next time.

Rentals are way overpriced. The amount of fun you will have in a day is not worth the price of the rental. Most of there clientele are probably rich bay aryians ?who come out to surf. The store helper couldn’t handle tha I knew what kind of board I needed hes just so used to helpless people running in asking for his help and expertise.

Cool little surf shop and rental place, they have wetsuits with numbers on them and surfboards and related items. I actually didn't buy or rent anything but my friends did, and were smiling most of the time while wearing the wetsuits, which is a good sign. They also held onto my phone for a few days after I lost it on the beach, and even charged it up, which is great service for a non-customer. Thanks to Sophie for that. There's apparently a good taco truck nearby, although as with most trucks it moves sometimes.

I had a group lesson here with Ian and he was great. I was a bit nervous as I've been dealing with recovery from some serious traumatic injuries -- impact sports out for now -- plus had been pulled out from under waves twice by a lifeguard when I was little so old fear plus recovery stuff. I just wanted to get comfortable, understand the local conditions, get some practical info, see where my body was at, and get some level-setting and confidence (I've been on water all my life but lakes not ocean.) I'd taken one surifng lesson before in HI but ages ago and pre-injuries. Ian totally got it, was very encouraging, accepted my pace, and also worked really well at the much faster level with my cohort in the class who was 17. I enjoyed the whole thing, was very happy to not be pushed beyond my now-zone, and am very comfortable that I'll be coming back a lot as I get my strength up. Thanks, Ian!

Terrible customer service. I drove all the way from Sacramento for some easy going waves, rented a cabin (gotta book like a month out) and went to rent a surf board. I've done similar trips all up and down the coast with no problems. I checked the surf report, weather, tide times etc. The guy at the counter, an old guy with pierced ears, interrupted me while I was telling him that I wanted a long board (I'm a bigger guy) with lots of foam, to tell me he wouldn't rent me a board until I went and looked at the ocean. When I asked him what I should be looking for, my thoughts were on safety and maybe he knew something I didn't, he told me "was the ocean, inviting".... bro, there's other people surfing down there, you probably rented some of them their boards so you know that, the waves are like 2-5ft high, kinda scarce but good for a long boards and that high tide was coming in about an hour but that didn't matter because I wanted to rent the board for a couple of days. He would have known that but we didn't get that far. Drive east on the 1 and get a board from Stinson Beach. These guys act like that because they're the only place in Bolinas.
